Today's Hypothetical

If your only choices for President were Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Ted Cruz, who would you vote for?

Me, I would go for Trump. Carson is unpredictably crazy and Cruz is an evil jerk. Better a fascist blowhard.

the ontheissues.org quiz shows me as diametrically opposed to trump. of the three, carson is the 'least opposed' to my positions, and cruz falls somewhere in the middle. in reading carson's stated positions on issues, i find his thoughts ranging from surprisingly sane ("1990s deregulation paved way for 2008 economic meltdown" and "Best policy is to get rid of all [oil] subsidies") to general-issue necon ("America on same bad path as ancient Rome, but we can fix it") to repugnant ("Creationists have God's ethics; evolutionists must find them"). cruz consistently disappoints and alienates me on every front, except the (somewhat) trivial afterthoughts such as not bailing out Bank of America. back to trump: as a demagogue (as fitting most of trish roberts-miller's characteristics), his positions are unacceptable on nearly all fronts. as a fascist blowhard, his noise is tiresome at best, inflammatory and alienating more typically, and outright dangerous in several cases.

so, to take the bait in your hypothetical, i would also take trump because he simply isn't believable. both carson and cruz command some respect among actual peers, whereas trump would have a better chance of being removed from office. it's more a question of who would get us into a major war first, and who would rapidly wreck any semblance of personal choice (except of course, gun rights). it's too bad you didn't include rand paul, who has at least a few sharp ideas in his quiver.

aside: oh why did i fall for this...

I'd start a mass abstention movement, or a vote of no confidence, or similar. There's always another option, especially in politics.

Trump - He would be less dangerous.

I would write someone in-- possibly Gillibrand, or Mikulski, or Biden for that matter. I literally could not force myself to vote for any of the three.

(Though if in fact there is no proof that Cruz's mother was not born in Delaware, or that she'd taken Canadian citizenship, it would be tempting to vote for him so that he could then be removed from office. Except surely his VP would be equally evil?)

@Verloren, good Kobayashi Maru :-)
