Socotra Island

Socotra Island is one of the world's weirdest places.

Politically it is part of Yemen, but geographically it is an extension of Africa.

It is home to dozens of species of plants found nowhere else, including the famous dragon blood trees (above).

And the desert rose.

Our planet is an amazing place, and even at my age I am still learning about new wonders.

Awesome!
I read about Socotra Island in Thor Heyerdahl's book 'Tigris'. He didn't end up going there; he received permission at the last minute, but he and his party sailed past. It's a shame. I think he would've found it fascinating.
